How to light a fireplace
The Top-Down Method
Build the fire from the largest logs upward. Lighting from the top gives you a cleaner start, steadier airflow and less fuss.
1. Sort your wood
Group the wood into large, medium and small pieces before you begin.
2. Base logs
Lay the largest logs parallel across the fireplace grate.
3. Cross layer
Place smaller logs across the base, perpendicular to the layer below.

4. Build upward
Add another layer of smaller wood in the opposite direction. Keep the stack below half the fireplace height.

5. Add kindling
Finish with dry kindling and a firelighter at the very top.

6. Light the top
Light from the top and enjoy a cleaner, more controlled burn.

Who we are
Cape Town firewood, done properly since 2019.
All Good Firewood started in 2019 as a student project. Today we deliver to more than 1,000 Cape Town homes, plus the restaurants, hotels and pizzerias that need a fire every night.
All our wood comes from invasive trees such as Black Wattle and Gum, which use too much water and crowd out indigenous plants. We season it for three months and light test fires along the way, so every bag is dry before it reaches you.
R5 from every bag goes to Greenpop to plant indigenous trees. Through Fueling the Shisanyama Spirit we also donate wood to local shisanyama vendors.

01How do you make sure the trees are being planted?+
We work with Greenpop. Customers can visit their planting sites and see the indigenous trees planted on behalf of All Good Firewood.
02Do you sell loose pieces?+
No. Our wood is packed in bags so orders can be delivered and offloaded neatly and efficiently.
03How many pieces of wood are in a bag?+
Bags are sold by weight rather than by piece count because natural log sizes vary.
04Is your wood dry?+
Absolutely. We maintain stock of properly seasoned, dry wood that is ready to burn.
05Which wood should I choose?+
Use the Wood Finder for a recommendation. Sekelbos excels for coals, Gum suits fast pizza-oven heat, and Black Wattle is a dependable everyday fireplace choice.
06Where do you deliver?+
We deliver across selected Cape Town zones. Enter your suburb in the delivery checker for the applicable fee, minimum order and available days.
07Can I sign up for Fire Club online?+
For now we set up monthly plans with you directly. WhatsApp us on 065 811 1759 and we will arrange it. Once-off orders are available in the shop.
08What is your returns policy?+
